If you already have training on tools and just want to qualify to use them here as a MakeHartford member, you can get tested out on most tools free of charge. For more information, send us an email.
Member On Duty – Second Saturday each month, 1pm – 2pm; Free
Members On Duty are the volunteer staff of MakeHartford. They are on site during open hours to ensure that we have a safe work environment and to greet new prospective members. Exact responsibilities will be discussed in the class. This class is required to staff the space as a Member on Duty. Instructor: Steven Yanicke
MakeHartford Open House and Show-n-Tell Wednesday – Wednesday, July 1, 6pm – 9pm; Free
This is a special edition of the MakeHartford Open House Nights. On the first Wednesday of each month, we host a Show-n-Tell event where you can sign up to show your latest creation to collect feedback, pitch an idea, or just show off. Projects do not need to be completed (or even started) in order to be shown. Sometimes issues arise even before fabrication / construction begins. You may bring the same project to the space again and again for additional feedback if needed.
Learn to Solder Monday July 6, 6:30pm – 9:30pm; $35/class
Participants will learn to solder electronic components to a printed circuit board while assembling and testing a small electronic project kit. The finished project is useful for the further study of electronics and is the participant’s to keep. Instruction will include workbench safety. All tools and materials will be provided. Eye protection is required. Safety glasses are available for an additional $4.00. Ages: Teens/Adults. Instructor : Ernie St. Louis
MakeHartford Maker Camp Tuesdays & Thursdays, July 7 – August 13, 6pm – 7:30pm; Free
MakeHartford has been selected as a 2015 Google Maker Camp Affiliate site this summer! Google Maker Camp is a free online summer camp for youth with physical “camps” within the community. We will be joining young inventors, artists and makers from around the world to learn, make and share cool lo-tech and hi-tech projects each week. Projects will follow these weekly themes: Week 1 – Fantasy, Week 2 – Funkytown, Week 3 – Farmstead, Week 4 – Fun & Games, Week 5 – Flight, Week 6 – Far-Out Future. The makerspace will remain open each camp day until 9:00pm for makers who want to stay longer to work on projects or explore new ideas. Ages: 8 – 18. Camp Counselor: Katherine Trouern-Trend
MakeHartford Open House Night Wednesdays, July 8, 15, 22, 29, 6pm – 9pm; Free
Ever want to come to the space and see what we’re up to? Want a tour of the space? Want to meet the members of the space? Great! Our Open House Night is the perfect time to stop in and to get membership information, to drop off equipment donations, and to chat about art and technology. You can also just hang out while people work on their own projects and socialize with other artists, geeks, and makers from Greater Hartford. Ages: All ages.
Geometric Origami Club Thursday, July 23, 6pm – 9pm; Free
This will be a monthly, ongoing series of geometric exploration with paper. It will involve how to fold geometric patterns and applications with other fields of study. Topic to be determined from month to month based on student interest and focus on geometric folds, tessellations, modular pieces, etc. Ages: All ages. Instructor: Ben Parker.
